Damar Batu is a yellowish brown colored, stone-shaped hard resin, obtained from a particular variety of the Dipterocarp species. Unlike gum damar which is taken directly from the tree, the resin of Damar Batu is obtained under ground in fossilized form, close to the tree roots. It is a hardened/ fossilized gum that are collected by the farmers on the forest floor. Damar batu usually appears in yellow or brownish colour and is one of the main raw materials in the production of paints and varnish. Incense and candle makings also use damar batu in the process. This product is formed by mixing dammer gum that is mixed with turpentine. Moreover, it is also used in oil painting, both during the painting process and post the painting is finished.
